Bon Jovi Experience Survey

I received this email a few weeks ago from AEG Live, and just a few days ago now from Bon Jovi directly (well not THEM, their management! :P)

They're asking a slew of questions about your preferences as a fan, from price ranges for tickets and merchandise to your view on fan club perks, the upcoming greatest hits album, and more. When I first took it, there were different questions than the recent one I just finished taking, so that confuses me a bit...but regardless, I think it's important to give them your opinions.

Now is the perfect opportunity to show them what we think and how we feel about the good, the bad, and the ugly surrounding the management and business of the band.

Who knows, if they really listen to our voices, maybe next tour will actually be for the working man...?

If you didn't receive the email, you can take the survey here. (And it doesn't collect personal data except for your IP address of course, so you can take it multiple times with different browsers/computers if you feel strongly enough!)

O2 Dome #10 (sorry for the delay)

UGH, sorry for being so late...my laptop went POOF the other day and the screen decided it didn't want to live anymore. So I've been pawning off my sister's computer for the weekend (thank GOD she let me lol), and I'm only now getting to update my blog. So I'm sorry for the post-fact news.

The last few O2 Dome nights were INSANE, I heard...the setlists were to die for! I am officially green with jealousy of those who got to witness these fabulous shows, and I truly hope you all had an amazing time. You'll certainly never forget them!!

And to the band -- thank you for finally pulling things from your vault, dusting them off, and playing them -- it's what we WANT and have been ASKING FOR! You totally came through for the Brit shows, and I just hope you don't fall back on plain ol' vanilla for us in the States. Because we Americans love the old stuff too, you know!! :)

Anyway, take a gander at these gems - WOW:

My life today...because of Bon Jovi.

I'm pulling up Glenn Osrin again because I've been loving everything he posts lately -- including his latest 4-part series on Love's the only rule for Bon Jovi fans, an inside look at the ties and bonds between Jovi fans all over the world.

And it got me thinking - just how much of my life today has been shaped by the people I've met through the Bon Jovi fan club? And more generally speaking, by Bon Jovi themselves?

The answer is: a hell of a lot.

Point in case - my boyfriend of nearly 4 years, my best friend in the entire world and ever-constant source of support and strength in everything I do, I met through Backstage JBJ in 2006. Online. On that old cream/white and red message board, where the yellow smiley faces were actually funny (particularly shock-face guy and pulsing heart-eyes). Where the Boredom Thread became my daily home, and where, on a random day in October, sitting in my former history teacher's office as his aide, I was playing around on his computer, logged into Backstage, and met a guy named "Stratocaster" (his online name; his real name is Björn). He lived - and still lives - in the Netherlands, but we met in person 8 months later, fell in love, and the rest is history.

Since that particular meeting, a more complex web of networks has formed -- some 50 or so "Boredies," from all over the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Great Britain (and later, Australia too) became my online Jovi friends. And I've had the pleasure of meeting nearly all of them over the last four years. Björn and I flew to the east coast and stayed with Trish in Philadelphia, PA for a week and Joanna in Hoboken, NJ, and met over a dozen of our mutual Boredie friends for dinner, backyard BBQs, and city-touring in PA, NJ, and NYC. (A mutual friend and her husband even trekked down from CANADA for this reunion!)

I've also met dozens of California fans - which is not surprising since I live here! - and we get together at least once a year for Jovi festivities. From San Francisco, where I got together with several NorCal fans for another fan's graduation party, to Los Angeles, where mostly SoCal fans meet up for dinners at Universal Studios CityWalk, to friends' homes in San Diego (where I live), and even to Las Vegas (which, I know, is not CA), where ALL of us - NorCal to SoCal - got together to see the band play at the Hard Rock Cafe in April 2009.

Oh, and this past month when I traveled to New Jersey to see Bon Jovi play New Meadowlands, I stayed with Jennifer (whom I met through Backstage), got together with about 20 other fans (whom I met through Backstage), and then traveled to Holland to see Björn, and GERMANY to see that friend who graduated in San Francisco (whom I met Backstage)!

It's not rare for me to visit and spend time with these amazing and wonderful people. They have all brought me such happiness and love, and given me support and friendship since I was just a goofy teenager who screamed every time someone even mentioned "Bon Jovi."

And I continue to meet more and more fans from all over the globe -- most particularly at concerts, where the default introduction is, "Hi, I'm [insert username] on the boards, who are you?" Say your real name and 50% of the time they look at you blankly. Say you're "RaiseYourHands," and comprehension dawns with "OH! So nice to finally meet you!"

Come on, don't tell me that's never happened to you! ;)

So aside from these new cherished friends, how else has Bon Jovi changed my life?

Well, because I met Björn, and because he lives 5,000 miles away, I had to travel a bit if I wanted to see him. And if I was traveling that far to visit him anyway, we might as well do some sightseeing. And travel further onward to foreign cities and lands. Places I've wanted to see my whole life.

So...since 2006 I have now been to the Netherlands four times, Belgium, London, Paris, Luxembourg, and Germany...plus Las Vegas, New York City, Philadelphia/PA, New Jersey, and resorts in the mountains and on islands around San Diego. It's a part of my life now, to travel, and we usually visit Backstage/Bon Jovi friends along the way.

So really, I never would have had the opportunity to travel and see these places without Bon Jovi. And that traveling yielded an endless process of learning...so I am smarter and more worldly thanks to Bon Jovi! LOL.

See how crazy of a domino effect this all is? And all of these points track down the line to one thing: Bon Jovi.

It's a wonderful, beautiful ride. And I am indebted to this band for so much, they will never possibly know how deeply they've affected my life and me, as a person.

From seeing the world to greeting, meeting, and reuniting with fan friends, I am one happy member of this Bon Jovi family. And I can't wait to see what the years to come have in store for us.

I've been everywhere
Still I'm standing tall
I've met a million faces
And befriended them all...

No service fees in June?

I find this wholeheartedly intriguing. Bon Jovi management posted this on Facebook and Twitter on June 12 (I just saw it, forgive my tardiness):

We know how much fans hate service fees on tickets so we got rid of them for the month of June! Buy tickets to see Bon Jovi any time this month and you will not be charged service fees. Go here for details http://bit.ly/NSF2010

Maybe I'm extra thick today, but...why? I mean, if your fans "hate" them, why have them in the first place? I have definitely been vocal in complaining about the inflated ticket prices and unbelievable fan club markups, but I know when to shut up because I have yet to have a bad concert experience with them (*knock on wood*). Even the $75 service fee I paid through the FC to get my pit seat at New Meadowlands (didn't realize that was in place until I saw the MUCH lowered prices on Ticketmaster three weeks later), though it pissed me off, I had a fantastic time and seat so I won't go bitching around the Jovi world about it. I paid it, I have no right to whine.

But that doesn't mean they should be in place. In my opinion, as someone who has been a paying Backstage fan club member since the days of Mrs. B, the markups and over-charges on tickets with the new FC management is pure robbery. And don't tell me that's just one of the changes that comes when you go corporate...my reply will be that they never should have gone corporate in the first place. But be that as it may, and I can't control what Jon's decisions are, it's still a very sore issue among MANY a devoted fan and fan club member.

So tell me, does this latest "special" offering no service fees for tickets bought in the month of June mean the Jovi powers-that-be are finally hearing our concerns? And trying to show that they respect them?

I think it's more likely that pigs will fly in the near future, but it could also just be a marketing move to encourage sales for the fall/winter tour dates. Although there aren't any upcoming sale dates that I'm aware of in June, so it could also just be an empty offer since everyone already has their tickets.

Leaves much to wonder about, doesn't it?

The mystery of JBJ's white mic stand revealed!

I LOVE Glenn Osrin's witty posts on examiner.com, and this is the latest and silliest of them yet. It's so incredibly ridiculous that it's hilarious - I'd love to be able to write like that!

from examiner.com:
The mystery of Bon Jovi's white microphone stand revealed, 2 of 2
June 14, 2:13 PM Bon Jovi Examiner Glenn Osrin

Did you miss part 1? Read it here.

Like any legendary tale, the mystery that surrounds Bon Jovi’s white microphone stand grows and morphs over time.

The JoviNation are so acutely aware of every square inch of the band and their equipment and accessories that its’ not surprising that the white mic stand should have a personal life all its own.

In fact, it probably even has its own groupies.

Yet one of the most common explanations as to why Jon Bon Jovi cozies up to that white mic stand is that he uses it like an on-stage Rock-N-Roll GPS.

Fan lore has it that since he moves around so much on stage, he needs a reference point that stands out from the crowd; something lighter in color than the average mic stand which might blend into the frenzied front rows when he emerges from the belly of the stage steps during the opening show darkness.

It’s a homing device that helps him get down from his Jovi-A-Gogo on the hydraulic lifts in concert without toppling off the stage into the adoring clutches of rabidly loyal fans cloistered Circle side; and, it also serves as a white flare for Richie Sambora and Hugh McDonald should JonBon go all samurai with it like he did in the vids for ‘You Give Love A Bad Name’ and ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’.

What women wouldn't give to trade places.

I mean, one whip-saw chop and cycle wheel spin and the band might be looking for a new guitarist, know what I’m sayin’?

Others in JoviNation swear that the white mic stand makes it easier for the roadies to set-up and calibrate Jon’s microphone settings by distinguishing his from the rest of the bands.

This way, if all else fails and the entire performance is loaded with technical glitches, at least it’s less likely to occur at Jon’s expense!

Recently however, this rumor was dashed when the band played ‘Superman Tonight’ on ‘American Idol’.

Moments into the globally televised song, it became painfully apparent that guitarist Richie Sambora’s microphone had been set at a higher volume than Jon’s. In concert it’s the kind of small speed-bump Jon would stop mid-song to fix; but this night saw Bon Jovi toss Richie the dreaded stink-eye scud missile known to turn men into pillars of salt right where they play.

Still another legend holds that the white mic stand has actually flown first class, up front with Jon and the boys. While they sip drinks and munch petite fours, the white mic kicks back and catches forty winks.

There even has been speculation that Brother Matt has been dispatched to a recently played town to reclaim the forgotten stand, carrying it with him on the plane like Fredo Corelone from The Godfather with Michael’s suitcase full of cash for Mo Green.

Though Matt tried to pull off this journey without fanfare, the secret got out when the mic stand demanded two-for-one whiskey sours and endless peanut packets when Matt was spiriting it back to the loving clutches of Mr. Bon Jovi himself.

It is with much fanfare and suspension of mystery that the truth can now be told to the titillated universe of inquiring minds that make up JoviNation…

“…a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away…”

There lived a Wanna-Be-Rock-N-Roll Prince, who toiled away sweeping record studio floors in between his dreamy sessions of stardom, when he would sneak in to a recording cue and let it rock let it roll under the watchful eye of his cousin Tony.

His dream for passion and greatness burned; and he was driven by a tireless mission and a psychic’s sixth sense that were rock-n-roll to be protected from the evil clutches of bands like Abba, the Bay City Rollers and Hanson, this Shaman of the Jersey Shore would have to brandish his white microphone Light Saber and save the world.

“Luke (and Jon), I am your Father”…

And so it was that in 1980 with big hair and an even bigger dream, a little known Jedi Rocker by the earthly name of Jon Bon Jovi produced his first-ever professional recording, “R2-D2 We Wish You A Merry Christmas” on an album produced by cousin Tony Bongiovi called “Christmas In The Stars: Star Wars Christmas Album”.

From that day forward, the white mic stand has kept up innocent appearances like any loyal Light Saber of a True Jedi Knight.

Oh perhaps it was presumptuous to overlook its’ polished white stance and mistake it for far less than a polished metal hilt capable of emitting an intergalactic rainbow of light; or, hundreds of thousands of decibels of sheer, unadulterated, rock-n-roll power.

While Jon’s favorite black six-string guitar is more musically diverse, the unassuming subtlety of the white mic stand hides it’s intergalactic purpose: it is the signature weapon of an interstellar musical Jedi Knight from Sayreville, and has been known to deflect blaster bolts and can even be used to tame rogue press agents and renegade music producers in a single swipe.

That’s right, JoviNation, the truth about Bon Jovi is that if fellow Jersey hero Bruce Springsteen was once the ‘future of rock n roll’, Jon Bon Jovi has been the Savior of Rock N Roll.

After all, could we expect anything less from a Rock-N-Roll Jedi Knight whose real name is…

OBWanBonJovi?

Bon Jovi to tour down under in December!

EDIT: NEW ZEALAND DATES ADDED:

December 4th, 2010 - Wellington, New Zealand - Westpac Stadium
December 5th, 2010 - Auckland, New Zealand - Mt. Smart Stadium

Beginning Thursday, June 24th at 9am Local Venue Time, current members of Backstage JBJ will have access to purchase Fan Club Pre-Sale Tickets and VIP Packages. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Thursday, 8 July.

FINALLY, news the Aussies and Kiwis have been waiting for!

From Melbourne's Herald Sun:

Bon Jovi will perform at Subiaco Oval, Perth, on December 8; Etihad Stadium, Melbourne, on December 11; Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, on December 14; and Sydney Football Stadium on December 17.

Tickets go on sale on July 8.

In the interview, Jon talks about the tour, fame, and the band's psychologist who "keeps them real." He also reiterated that he doesn't want to be the Stones:

Bon Jovi knows his band is still relevant to millions of fans worldwide.

But he is uncertain about performing at Mick Jagger's age, 66.

"Let me be clear. The Rolling Stones are our idols, role models and heroes. But I don't know if I can be out here, doing this, 20 years from now," said Bon Jovi, who is 48. "So I want to be the Stones in every other way there is, except touring forever."

New Design

I absolutely love the new designer on Blogger (except for a few customization limits...) and I was toying around with a sleeker, more modern look for this site. I'm not 100% sure if I like it or not, though, so I need opinions.

Whaddya think?

Scheveningen & O2

Hello lovelies! Apologies for falling behind on the tour front...after Jersey I came straight to Europe and had to switch my mindset right away lol. I'm finally getting a (short) chance to update my blogs, though, so here's the latest scoop in the world of Bon Jovi:

The band played the Royal Beach Festival in Scheveningen, Netherlands on Saturday, June 5 2010. And yes, I am in the Netherlands right now...and no, I wasn't at the show. I am making the biggest pout/mad face you could possibly imagine right now, but it wasn't my doing...a certain boyfriend of mine (whom I met through the Bon Jovi FAN CLUB!) didn't WANT TO GO. Yeah. How's that for ironic? lol. But he was cool enough to take me to the hotel in Amsterdam where they always stay when they play in the Netherlands, and we waited a bit for them to show up...which they never did. Ah well. Reports were that the show was fantastic, and there were so many Bon Jovi fans on the trains home that night that I had to shut my eyes, switch my iPod on, and pretend nothing happened. ;)

The setlist was as follows:

Last Man Standing
We Weren't Born to Follow
You Give Love a Bad Name
Born To Be My Baby
Lost Highway
Raise Your Hands
We Got It Going On
When We Were Beautiful
In These Arms (David sang with Jon on this one!)
Captain Crash and the Beauty Queen from Mars
Bad Medicine / Roadhouse Blues
It's My Life
Lay Your Hands on Me
I'll Sleep When I'm Dead
Runaway
Work for the Working Man
Rockin' All Over the World
Who Says You Can't Go Home
Keep the Faith
Only Lonely
Wanted Dead or Alive
Livin' on a Prayer

The guys then took off for their residency in London at the O2 Dome, where, I just learned tonight, they played a rooftop set on the opening day!!

Hath has some pictures up from this performance.

They performed We Weren't Born To Follow, Superman Tonight, It's My Life, and You Give Love a Bad Name on the roof, then performed the full show that night in the stadium:

Where's Waldo? - Bon Jovi style

I don't know how many of you know about the new GigaPan trend -- composites of hundreds of pictures taken and threaded together to form one huge, multi-million megapixel panoramic photograph -- but it's an incredible feature I've seen around the internet for the last year or so.

On Bon Jovi's main website, they have posted GigaPan shots of many of the shows done so far this tour -- including the most recent New Meadowlands. A friend told me about them on Twitter, and I just pulled them up and found myself in the crowd shots of nights 2 and 3 -- very cool! (I was in the 100 level on night 1, and I can't find myself in that one.)

Night Two - 5/27/10 full shot

Because I'm STILL back at that night reminiscing, here are some videos from the final night at New Meadowlands -- and I just realized it's been one week since the first night. HOLY toledo. Where does the time go?!

First, here's my video of Diamond Ring from the pit. I debated sharing it because people around me talked through the WHOLE THING (trust me, I was very close to beating them all up) and it nearly ruins it for me. But if you have the strength to ignore the outside noise and focus on the music, enjoy.

And the lovely Catte729 got a whole slew of songs on video for us, so here are some of my faves of hers from that night:
